10 Analytics to track on Instagram

Understanding and studying your Instagram analytics is a great way to learn what your audience are responding to, and what is turning them away. It allows you to see what content hits so you can focus on creating more of that content. Understanding your analytics allows you to provide value to your audience and ultimately grow your business.

Here are 10 analytics that we recommend business owners track on their Instagram accounts on a monthly basis;

  1. Reach: Reach measures the number of unique accounts that see your content. This is a key metric in tracking how much awareness your content is bringing to your brand, and the value it is providing.

  2. Engagement: This is the percentage of your following that have engaged with your content. It’s a simple calculation; Likes + comments + saves / reach x 100.

  3. Traffic: Traffic refers to the amount of clicks from links, calls-to-action and in-bio website links. This shows what motivates your audience and makes them take that next step to leave Instagram and click on a link.

  4. Saves: The number of times that your content is bookmarked by a user to come back to later is a great marker for how valuable that content is.

  5. Shares: Shareable content means that content resonates with your audience and makes them want to spread the word. Shares refers to how many times a post was shared with another user.

  6. Follower Growth: Let’s not get fixated with how many followers you have - followers are vanity, sales are vanity. However, tracking what content attracts new followers is an important metric as it tells you that content is attracting new eyes to your Instagram.

  7. Watch-through-rate: What percentage of people are watching your content from start-to-finish? This metric shows you how engaging that content is.

  8. Stories Insights: Instagram provides insights on each story slide showing what held your followers attention, tap onto the next story, exited and so on. It also tells you what content on stories encouraged replies and reactions from followers.

  9. Reels Insights: Reels have their own specific insights, including plays, watch times, and when viewers drop off. This is important as reels are the best way to attract new eyes to your Instagram. Knowing what holds attention allows you to focus on creating similar content.

  10. Best Posting Times: Insights will show you when your followers are online, which acts as a guide on when is the best time to post your content.
